The Seattle Mariners topped the Detroit Tigers, 7-1, in American League action at Comerica Park. The standout performance belonged to Seattle pitcher and Houston, Texas, native David Leal. Leal picked up the win for Seattle, going 5.2 innings. He gave up no runs on 2 hits. He now sports a record of 11-7. Jose Urquidy earned the save for Seattle, his 1st of the year.

With one out in the top of the sixth, Carlos Correa barreled up a fastball from Bryse Wilson. The result was a grand slam home run, putting the Mariners in front, 6-0.

"Getting ahead of the hitters was the key," said Leal.

The first-place Mariners, at 72-58, now lead their division by 3½ games.
