Cubs Prevail, 4-3, in 12 Innings
|
The Chicago Cubs faced a tough opponent in St. Louis pitcher James Hellwig, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Busch Stadium by a final score of 4-3. Hellwig went 7.2 innings and allowed 2 runs. The loss makes St. Louis 82-54.
Chicago used the clutch hitting of Henry Davis to capture the win. The catcher drilled a solo home run in the top of the 12th inning to put the Cubs ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"Sometimes winning takes more than 27 outs," said Cubs manager Josh Widener.
