Rangers Fall Short, 1-0, at Houston
|
Texas got a terrific performance from pitcher Jonathan Stiever, but it wasn't enough to beat the Houston Astros. Houston won the Minute Maid Park contest, 1-0. Stiever threw 7.2 innings allowing 1 runs for the losing team. Jeffrey Springs earned the win to go to 14-10. He allowed no runs on 6 hits, with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts in 6 innings of work. Shane Bieber got credit for the save for Houston. It was his 33rd of the year.
In the bottom of the third, Houston shortstop Jeremy Pena had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 2nd and no one out, Pena stroked a run-scoring single to right. It made the score 1-0, Houston. For the game, he went 1 for 3.
Pena attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
Houston is 5th in the American League West Division with a record of 73-73.
