Baltimore third baseman Manny Machado had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 6-5, to Cincinnati at Frederick Douglass Freedom Stadium. Machado went 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The save went to Adbert Alzolay, number 2 for him. With the win, Cincinnati improves its record to 2-3.

The outcome might have been different for Cincinnati, had it not been for Kevin Poindexter, the former first round draft pick . Poindexter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put Cincinnati up, 6-5. For the game, he was 3 for 4, including 2 doubles and 1 single.

"We'll savor this win," Poindexter told the Cincinnati Chronicle, "then get ready for the next game."
