Oakland starter Frankie Montas put a stranglehold on the Texas offense. The right-hander had complete command of his sinker in leading the Athletics to a 3-1 win. Montas, the winner, moves to 1-1. He threw 5 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 2 walks. Getting the save was Cam Robinson, his 2nd.

The Athletics got a big at-bat from right fielder Luis Burciaga. For the game, Burciaga went 1 for 3 with a double and a walk. In the bottom of the third, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 2nd double of the season gave Oakland a 2-1 lead.

"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Oakland skipper Nick Doul. "I can't complain."
