The Twins faced a stiff challenge from New York pitcher Bubba Chandler, but persevered to claim a win at Target Field. The final score was 2-1. Chandler went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. Alexis Diaz picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Owen Murphy was tagged with the loss. The defeat makes New York 4-6.
The Twins procured the win, in large part because of designated hitter Coby Mayo. In the bottom of the 11th, he produced the game-winning run-scoring single.
"We've got guys willing to do what it takes to win," Mayo told the Minnesota Daily News.
