Orange Lutheran second baseman Ismael del Valle went down swinging at Field today, knocking out 5 hits even as his Lancers fell, 11-5.

"It was like I was hitting Little League pitching," del Valle said after his 5-for-5 performance against the JSerra Catholic Lions. "No offense meant to JSerra Catholic, but it was like I was back in little league again -- I could see the ball that well."

After the game, his manager elaborated on the second baseman's improvements, saying del Valle spent the offseason trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball.

"That's what I'm trying to do," del Valle agreed. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."

Ismael del Valle doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th, tripled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.

So far this year del Valle is batting .370 with no home runs, 3 RBIs and 6 runs scored.
