Almost There: Toronto On Cusp of LC Triumph After 4-2 Win
|
The Toronto Maples moved to within one game of the GLBL Championship today, downing the Thunder Bay Caribou on the road at Caribou Field by a score of 4-2. Maples left-hander Nick Lane had a strong outing. He threw 6.0 innings allowing 2 runs. The win gives the Maples a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 League Championship.
Toronto relied on the bat of Jim Gates to get the win. The third baseman ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Maples ahead, 4-2. For the game, Gates had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
Thunder Bay manager Robert Larmer said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Caribou Field in Thunder Bay.
