Mounties Prevail, 5-4, Over Toronto
|
Toronto third baseman Gerald Powers had a good game, even if his team did not. The Maples dropped a 5-4 decision to Hamilton at Harbour Field. Powers hit 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Pablo Ojeda, the winning pitcher, is now 3-4. He went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, while fanning 5 and walking 1. Juan Sánchez got the save, his 18th in 20 chances.
The Mounties got a big at-bat from center fielder Scotty Kreamer. For the game, Kreamer was 1-4 with a triple. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a bases-clearing triple. His 9th triple of the season gave Hamilton a 4-2 lead.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Toronto manager Linus Riverboat. "But we decided not to take it."
The Mounties lead the North of the Border by 4 games.
