Skidding Maples Lose 9th Straight
|
The Thunder Bay Caribou, despite a fine performance by Toronto pitcher Sam Goerts, grabbed a 3-2 win at Caribou Field. Goerts allowed 2 runs over 6.2 innings. Thunder Bay reliever Jerry Powell was the winner. His record is now 7-3. The losing pitcher was Kevin McAskill. The slumping Maples have lost 9 straight.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Thunder Bay second baseman Sterling Morin, facing Kevin McAskill, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Caribou the 3-2 win.
Morin attributed the win to his team's "steely resolve."
