Caribou Beat Visiting Comets, 4-1
|
Thunder Bay and Kingston duked it out and the Caribou came out victorious.
The exploits of left fielder Armando Hernández, who finished 3rd in the CAN in slugging percentage with .459 in 2045, helped the Thunder Bay Caribou defeat the Kingston Comets, 4-1. Hernández went 1-3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Brian Walsh earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. He upped his record to 1-0. Dustin Hennequin earned the save for Thunder Bay, his 4th of the year.
Hernández had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the sixth. On a 1-0 fastball from John Brown, he banged a 2-run home run to left-center, giving the Caribou a 2-0 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Hernández.
In postgame comments to the Thunder Bay Gazette, Hernández said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
For the Comets, the loss makes their record 6-9.
