Traverse City Bears starter Ward Covey turned in a top-notch performance against the Hamilton Mounties at The Den. The result was a win for the Bears, 4-2. Covey got the win, improving to 3-0. He allowed 6 hits and walked 2 over 6 innings. Covey allowed 1 run. Ken Shannon sewed up the save, his 1st.
In the bottom of the first, Traverse City second baseman Gary Ford had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and one out, Ford stroked a run-scoring single to right. It made the score 1-0, Traverse City. For the game, he was 1 for 4.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Traverse City manager Jim Burns.
The Bears, now 12-4, have played some good baseball in the early going.
