Fireflies Snatch Late Win
|
The Columbia Fireflies faced a tough opponent in Lakewood pitcher Gabriele Nobilo, but did just enough to pull out the victory at First Energy Park by a final score of 6-3. Nobilo went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. Columbia reliever Luis Pulido was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Ajani Makle took the loss. Mike Tidwell sewed up the save, his 2nd.
Columbia used a clutch hit from Tim Heminger to get the win. The right fielder drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Fireflies ahead, 6-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"The most important thing is that we won," Heminger said.
The win brings the Fireflies to 3-13, an awful start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.
