Whitley Leads ValleyCats to Win
|
ValleyCats shortstop Pete Whitley put his stamp on his team's 8-4 win over the Connecticut Tigers. Whitley went 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4 for Tri-City in the contest. Chris Nizza got the win, improving to 2-2. He worked 6.1 innings, giving up 4 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 2. Jorge Contreras, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save.
Whitley had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a 0-1 fastball from Kevin Gardner, he banged a 2-run home run to left-center, giving the ValleyCats a 6-4 lead. It was the 3rd home run of the year for Whitley.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Whitley told the Tri-City Daily.
With the win, the ValleyCats have a record of 18-16.
