Josh Chitwood was instrumental in his team's 3-0 triumph over the Tri-City ValleyCats. The designated hitter threw 6.1 innings of shutout ball for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. Chitwood went 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 0, and struck out 8. His record improves to 1-0. Chris Pierce, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 2nd save.

Mahoning Valley left fielder Josh Kulach contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball into left field for a 2-run single. It was his 42nd hit of the season and put the Scrappers ahead, 3-0.

"It's not about individual awards," Kulach told a Mahoning Valley Gazette reporter after the game. "It's about winning championships. That's what we play for."

The 5th-place Scrappers have a record of 13-22.
