Slumping Yankees Lose Again, 3-2
|
The Houston (GCL) Astros defeated the New York A (GCL) Yankees, 3-2, in Gulf Coast Rookie League action at George M. Steinbrenner Field. Houston (GCL) pitcher Luis Govea had a standout performance. In 6.1 innings, Govea surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. Adrião Toco was credited with the save for Houston (GCL), his 4th of the season.
Houston (GCL) used the timely hitting of Joe Burgess to capture the win. The left fielder socked a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Astros ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"That's baseball," said New York A (GCL) manager Jae-gyun Hwang. "You're not always going to be hitting on all cylinders."
The Yankees, now 17-16, have lost 8 in a row.
