The West Virginia Black Bears had to overcome a fine performance from Vermont pitcher Greg Riddell to grab a 3-1 win at Monongalia County Ballpark. Riddell allowed 3 runs over 6.1 innings. Steve Kelley earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 7 hits in 6.1 innings. He upped his record to 1-0. Ângelo Neuparth collected save number 24.

West Virginia took a 3-1 lead on Mike Cook's 10th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Cook hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Vermont pitcher Chris Bowers visibly frustrated.

"Our guys are never satisfied," said West Virginia manager Dominic Toso.

West Virginia now sits in first place in the Pinckney Division at 54-20.
