Nationals Edge Blue Rocks 4-3 to Open R1
|
The Potomac Nationals started the Round 1 in style today, winning on the road against the Wilmington Blue Rocks at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium by a score of 4-3 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Nationals right-hander Jamari Doakes threw 5.1 innings allowing 3 runs.
Potomac used the timely hitting of Juan McCarthy to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Nationals on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"It's true for every sport, I think, but the playoffs are so short that you've just got to get in and get hot," Potomac manager Mike Morse told BNN after the win. "We took care of the first part and now we're just working on the second."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium in Wilmington.
