The Kansas City Royals started the Divisional Series in style today, winning on the road against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium by a score of 8-1 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Royals left-hander Kenji Matsumoto threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Amari Quarless? The Kansas City left fielder had a bases-clearing double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Royals on top, 4-1. For the game, Quarless had 1 double and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.

Quarless attributed the win to his team's "hyper resolve."
