Mercado goes 3-for-5 to Fuel Reds Offense
The Cincinnati Reds turned back the Texas Rangers, 5-4, at Globe Life Park in Arlington. Luis Mercado, in particular, had a fine performance. He was 3-5 with a home run and a triple. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. Cincinnati reliever Eric Elmore was the winner. His record is now 1-6. Eric Beshears took the loss. The Reds now have a record of 48-69 with the win over Texas.

Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Jim Kapalko? The 35-year old first baseman Kapalko stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put Cincinnati up, 5-4. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.

"We squandered some opportunities," said Texas manager Darren Clarke.
