Gerner Helps Cubs Beat Rays, 12-7
Jake Gerner left his imprint on the 12-7 Chicago win against the Tampa Bay Rays. Gerner, the 32nd overall pick in the 2036 draft, went 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 4. Chicago reliever Dan Hypolite picked up the win, upping his record to 4-8. Myung-gu Myong absorbed the loss. Chicago goes to 45-73, Tampa Bay to 74-44.

Chicago center fielder Jared Barg contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the second. With two down, he hit a sinker to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 42nd hit of the season and put the Cubs ahead, 6-2.

"Winning is seldom easy in this league," said Gerner.
