Opening day festivities have begun throughout the league. Fans of the Tacoma Rainiers were eager to watch Luis Escalante square off against Josh Meggett of the visiting Sacramento River Cats. In the end, the River Cats won the game, 4-3, with Josh Meggett leading the way. Meggett got the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed 9 hits and walked 2 over 7 innings. Meggett allowed 3 runs.

Sacramento used the bat of Jorge Gaitan to capture the win. The left fielder jacked a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the River Cats ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a dandy.

"I went after the hitters," said Meggett. "No pussyfooting around."
