Ernesto Castro pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Richmond Flying Squirrels, despite Castro's fine outing, dropped a 3-2 decision to the Reading Fightin Phils at The Diamond. Greg Dugan was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, with no walks and 5 strikeouts. Jim Conrad was credited with the save for Reading, his 17th of the season.
Joel Carlstrom contributed to the Fightin Phils cause with a productive at-bat in the top of the sixth inning. With a runner on 1st, he hit a 2-run home run, giving Reading the lead.
"Being able to play a game for a living is one thing. Being able to play it well and contribute to a win is even better," Carlstrom told the Reading Daily News.
Despite the win, the Fightin Phils have a lousy 37-74 record.
