In baseball, each game is unique. This one was no different.
The Bowie Baysox picked up a win at Prince George's Stadium, knocking off the Trenton Thunder, 4-1. Starting pitcher Josh DeStefano played a key role in the triumph. DeStefano, now 4-12, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 8, walking 4, and allowing 1 run. Picking up the save was Elvis Martin, his 17th.
The Thunder had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Baysox going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old second baseman Gregorio Mercado came to the plate. Mercado hit a 2-run home run on a 2-0 fastball from Trenton hurler Ezequiel Murcia. It was Mercado's 14th home run of the year.
"For the most part, I made good pitches when I needed to," said DeStefano.
The Baysox, at 43-76, sit in last place in the Western Division.
