Mets Nipped by Nationals, 3-2
|
Citi Field was the site of a tense game between the New York Mets and Washington Nationals.
The Washington Nationals earned a close win over the New York Mets, thanks in part to Jorge Dippold. The Washington right-hander, who led the NL in innings pitched with 240.1 in 2039, played a key role in the 3-2 victory. Dippold, now 18-7, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. Jorge Garza earned the save for Washington, his 7th of the year.
Jamie Schroeder, who is on pace for 107 RBI this season, had a direct impact on the outcome. Schroeder contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning to put Washington up, 3-2.
"I love playing this game, so you'll never see me not want to go out there and pitch," said Dippold.
The win elevated the Nationals to 95-65.
