Fans of the Corpus Christi Hooks who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Corpus Christi win over the visiting Amarillo Sod Poodles, 6-4. Brendan Monaghan started for the home team against Josh Mullinix. Josh Mullinix earned accolades for his performance. Corpus Christi reliever Billy Scott got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Sergio Mata was tagged with the loss.

Jared Macahilig's at-bat in the bottom of the eighth inning was a big one for Corpus Christi. Coming to bat with no one out, runners on 1st and 2nd and Corpus Christi trailing 4-3, the catcher hit a run-scoring single.

"We took advantage of our opportunities," Macahilig told the Corpus Christi Times. "It's as simple as that."
