Sod Poodles Deal Cardinals 5-3 Setback
|
Amarillo picked up a win at Hammons Field, bumping off the Springfield Cardinals, 5-3. Pitcher Esteban Zamarripa was a major reason the Sod Poodles emerged victorious. Zamarripa, now 10-4, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 9, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Eric Bender closed the door for Amarillo, picking up his 27th save of the year.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Ian Alexander? The Amarillo catcher had a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Sod Poodles on top, 5-1. For the game, Alexander had 1 double and 1 single in 2 at-bats.
"Winning is contagious," said Alexander. "We're looking forward to the next game."
Amarillo occupies third place in the South Division at 57-47.
