Cubs Suffer 7-4 Setback
Behind a fine performance from Rodolfo Valadez, the Great Lakes Loons knocked off the South Bend Cubs, 7-4. Valadez was 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 for the Loons. Great Lakes reliever Nehemiah Buckmon picked up the win, raising his record to 1-0. Kurt Vaughns was tagged with the loss. The win puts Great Lakes at 4-1.

Valadez came through with some timely hitting for Great Lakes. With South Bend trailing 3-2 in the top of the eighth, Valadez hit a full count fastball for a 3-run home run. His 1st home run of the season made it 5-3, Great Lakes.

"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Valadez told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
