Whitecaps Deal Bees Painful Loss
Good production from first baseman Phil Lawrence helped the West Michigan Whitecaps topple the Burlington Bees, 5-4. Lawrence was 4-5 with 4 singles and 3 walks for the Whitecaps. Jorge Mitrani picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Dan King was tagged with the loss. The Whitecaps have now won 4 straight.

West Michigan won the game in the bottom of the 16th inning. With no outs and Dan King on the mound for Burlington, designated hitter Chris Nichols hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Whitecaps fans to their feet.

"This is a resilient bunch," said West Michigan manager Sam Campbell.
