Blue Jays Squelch Royals Offense in Shutout Win
The Kansas City Royals had to reckon with Toronto Blue Jays hurler Kevin Gausman. Gausman, who finished 5th in the AL in strikeouts with 205 in 2022, overwhelmed the opposition in the 6-0 Blue Jays triumph. Gausman picked up the win for Toronto, going 7.1 innings. He gave up no runs on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 1-1. Kansas City, with the loss, is still a stout 18-8.

The Blue Jays got a big at-bat from right fielder Orelvis Martinez. For the game, Martinez went 3-5 with 3 doubles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 5th double of the season gave Toronto a 2-0 lead.
