Athletics Win 6-4 Walk-Off
|
Oakland third baseman Jim Fletcher made his presence felt in the 6-4 Athletics triumph over the Los Angeles Angels. Fletcher was 2-5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Greg Turner, now 3-0, was credited with the win in 1 innings of relief. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 1. The Athletics, at 25-13, sit in first place in the American League West Division.
The game was decided with two out in the bottom of the ninth. With Oakland trailing 4-3, Fletcher jumped on a fastball from 33-year old right-handed pitcher Luis Urquiaga and hit a 3-run home run to left-center. With one swing, the Athletics had a walk-off win.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Fletcher said.
