Expos Suffer 7-2 Home Defeat
|
Spirited fans greeted the Montreal Expos for their clash with the Washington Nationals.
The Washington Nationals defeated the Montreal Expos, 7-2. First Baseman Luis Quintero deserved a large share of the credit. Quintero went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Nationals. Jim Wayman got the win, improving to 3-3. He held the Expos to 1 run on 3 hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 3.
Chris Chambers had a big 2-run home run for the Nationals in the top of the sixth inning. With Washington leading 2-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from former first round draft pick Andy Mitchell and punished it. The result was his 19th home run of the season, which put the Nationals on top, 4-0.
Quintero called the win "a collective effort."
The win puts Washington at 86-73 this season.
