Cincinnati Defeats St. Louis, 3-1
|
The Cincinnati Reds got a marvelous performance from pitcher Kevon Appiah. The right-hander kept the St. Louis offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 3-1 Cincinnati victory at Busch Stadium. Appiah yielded 1 run over 6.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 2, and struck out 6. His record improves to 12-4. The save went to Omarion Bethea, number 7 for him.
Cincinnati used a well-timed hit by Esteban Villela to capture the win. The center fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Reds ahead, 3-1. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"We take it day by day here," said Villela, "and today was a good one for us."
The Reds, at 76-85, sit in 4th place in the National League Central Division.
