A good performance from left fielder Ben Smeltzer helped the San Diego Padres defeat the San Francisco Giants, 9-2. Smeltzer was 3-4 with 2 doubles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Padres. San Diego improves to 93-69 with the win. They lead their division by 8 games.
Jeremy Mapes, the 8th overall pick in the 2048 draft, took San Francisco hurler Juan Vega deep in the top of the second. His 2-run home run put the Padres on top, 2-1. In all, Mapes had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 5.
