Giants Bridle Cubs, 2-1
|
The San Francisco Giants picked up a win at Wrigley Field, knocking off the Chicago Cubs, 2-1. On the mound for San Francisco was left-hander Juan Villa. He played a key role in the triumph. The winning pitcher was Villa, now 6-7. He tossed 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 6. Earning the save was Harrie Meulendijks. He's now cashed in 9 of 12 save opportunities.
The Giants got a big at-bat from left fielder Christopher Turk. For the game, Turk was 1-4 with a home run. In the top of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 10th home run of the season gave San Francisco a 2-1 lead.
"Main thing is I want the team to win," Villa told a reporter after the game. "Just have to go out there, take care of my job, and give my team a chance to win."
Chicago has now lost 4 straight.
