Braves Pop Expos, 10-1
|
Atlanta right-hander Steve Pettit pitched his team to victory over the Montreal Expos at SunTrust Park. The final score was 10-1. The winner was Pettit. He threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Ignacio Islas. The third-place Braves are 50-53.
Juan Polendo had a big 2-run home run for the Braves in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Atlanta leading 2-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a changeup from Ignacio Islas and swatted a home run to right. It was his 12th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Braves ahead, 4-0.
"Steve mixed and matched," said Atlanta manager Dan Smith.
