Spiders Popped by Rockies, 6-3
|
Colorado pitcher Jake Van Dijk had a large part in his team beating the Cleveland Spiders, 6-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Van Dijk, the winner, moves to 7-11. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 1 walk. Eddie Laidlaw picked up the save, his 1st.
Maddox Sandwell had a big 2-run home run for the Rockies in the bottom of the first inning. With Colorado leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a cutter from former first round draft pick Luis Ramos and punished it. The result was his 26th home run of the season, which put the Rockies on top, 3-0.
"I'm happy we won," said Van Dijk. "That's first and foremost. My goal is for the team to win the day I pitch, however it's done."
The Rockies raised their record to 45-67.
