Cardinals Nip Reds, 4-3
|
The St. Louis Cardinals did just enough to secure a victory over the Cincinnati Reds, 4-3, in 10 innings at Busch Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Lupe Arguedas. Pete Hanson, now 5-3, was credited with the win in 1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 0 and walking 0. With the win, the Cardinals have a record of 66-54.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when St. Louis right fielder Omarion Tanniehill, facing Yendry Elien, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Cardinals the 4-3 win.
St. Louis manager Tony La Russa called it "a good, solid win."
