Padres Popped by Nationals, 6-3
|
In the 6-3 Washington win over San Diego, the impact of Tony Maree was substantial. Maree, who led the NL in home runs with 52 last year, went 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Washington goes to 8-7.
Chris Willerson had a big 2-run double for the Nationals in the bottom of the first inning. With Washington leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 33-year old right-handed pitcher Danny Hostetter and swatted a double to right. It was his 4th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Nationals ahead, 3-0.
Willerson called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
