The rain could not keep the home crowd from enjoying a good ballgame.
The Texas Rangers besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Chicago first baseman Russ O'Toole by beating the White Sox, 6-5, at Guaranteed Rate Field. O'Toole went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Jaden Goodman, now 2-8, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings.
Vinny Valdez came through with a big-time hit for Texas. The designated hitter smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 6-5. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Chicago manager Adam T. "But we decided not to take it."
Texas goes to 50-75, Chicago to 59-66.
