Host Cubs Drop Pivotal Game 5, Now Trail Series 3-2
|
The San Francisco Giants have a critical edge over the Chicago (N) Cubs in the League Championship Series, thanks to the veteran arm of Doug Dunn.
Dunn, 33, put on a dominant performance at Wrigley Field today, leading the Giants to victory, 3-1, in a pivotal Game 5. San Francisco is now one game away from the World Series, leading the best-of-7 series by a margin of 3-2. Chicago (N) will need to win both remaining games to advance.
Shawn Tate, who finished 4th in the AL in stolen bases with 42 in 2087, aided the San Francisco cause with a run-scoring double in the top of the third. For the game, the second baseman was 2-4 with a double.
"It was a good day but I'm not letting my guard down," Dunn said. "I'll let my guard down as soon as someone puts a big, fat championship ring on my finger."
Game 6 is scheduled for Friday at AT&T Park in San Francisco.
