Mariners Stymie Boston, Take 4-1 Win
|
Seattle and Boston duked it out and the Mariners came out victorious.
The Seattle Mariners knocked off the Boston Red Sox, 4-1, at Fenway Park. Joe Whalen was a big reason Seattle won. The right fielder was 3-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times. Mario Vega earned save number 19 this season.
Whalen had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a first pitch cutter from Bobby Sanchez, he banged a solo home run to left-center, giving the Mariners a 2-1 lead. It was the 7th home run of the year for Whalen.
Whalen said his team "played with determination."
The win puts Seattle at 44-30 this season.
