Las Vegas designated hitter Julio Fuentes couldn't hide his reaction when asked about being named MVP of the Round 1.

"It's a nice honor," he said, failing to suppress a wide smile. The trophy was presented to Fuentes moments after his club eliminated the Sacramento River Cats to advance to the Round 2.

Las Vegas won the final game by a score of 7-3 at Sutter Health Park and took the series 3-1.

"We won the series and that's the main thing," Fuentes said. "They were a tough team and we didn't want to take anything for granted."

For the series, Fuentes hit .538 with a .647 on-base percentage. He had 3 home runs, drove in 6 RBI and scored 4 runs.

"He was tough to stop and that's a big reason they're there and we're here," said a dejected Sacramento manager Vance Wilson.

The Las Vegas Aviators will play against the Wichita Wind Surge in the next round. Wichita won their series against the Memphis Redbirds 3 games to 0. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
