The Miami Marlins got a superb performance from pitcher D.J. Larsen, but the Washington Nationals still won the game, 5-4. Larsen threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball. Washington reliever Joel Buckner picked up the win, upping his record to 4-3. Ben Flanders absorbed the loss. Chad Martin was credited with the save for Washington, his 22nd of the season.
Washington used a timely hit from Sal Ortiz to get the win. The catcher stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Nationals ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"Glad to get this win," said Ortiz. "But we need to keep playing at a high level."
The win for the Nationals lifted their record to 42-40.
