The Boston Red Sox started the Division Series in style today, winning on the road against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field by a score of 9-1 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Red Sox right-hander Sam McWilliams threw 8.0 innings of 2-hit ball.

McWilliams was effective against the Rays, seldom allowing a hard-hit ball. The right-hander limited Tampa Bay to just 1 run on 2 hits over 8 innings.

"We maximized our offense today," said Boston skipper Jason Kendall. "That makes everyone's life easier."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.
