Closing In: San Jose Nears R2 With Dramatic Game 5 Win | An all-important Game 5 of the Round 1 went into extra innings at First National Bank Field, with the San Jose Giants eventually emerging on top. San Jose has Jeff Houghtby to thank, after the second baseman was 3-3 with a home run, a double, and 3 walks. He scored 2 times and drove in 4 in the 10-9 victory. The Giants are now one game away from the Round 2, holding a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 series.
The clutch hit was provided by Armani Sanchez. He delivered a walk-off run-scoring single off Anthony Ursitti in the bottom of the 11th.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said San Jose manager Dustin Pedroia.
The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Parkview Field. Slated to start are Jack Neely for San Jose and Johnny Ray for Lake Elsinore.
