| McCarthy, Flying Squirrels Beat Fightin Phils, 7-3 | Behind the hitting of Joe McCarthy, the Richmond Flying Squirrels stopped the Reading Fightin Phils, 7-3. McCarthy was 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for the Flying Squirrels. Edgar Arredondo got the win, improving to 1-0. He worked 7 innings, giving up 3 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. Reading falls to 7-13.
With Richmond leading 1-0 in the top of the second, McCarthy hit a fastball from Francisco Morales for a 3-run home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put the Flying Squirrels ahead, 4-0.
"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," McCarthy said.
