Marlins Get Close Win Over Nationals, 6-5
|
In baseball, each game is unique. This one was no different.
Good production from first baseman Oneil Cruz helped the Miami Marlins topple the Washington Nationals, 6-5. Cruz went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Marlins. Chad Hockin, now 4-1, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. Earning his 19th save of the year was Junior Fernandez.
Miami used the timely hitting of Gilberto Jimenez to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Marlins on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Nice win for us," said Jimenez. "Now we'll go after the next one."
Miami is now 37-33, while Washington is 31-39.
