Detroit Topples Kansas City, 3-1

Comerica Park was the site of a tense game between the Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers.
Detroit starter Tarik Skubal put a stranglehold on the Kansas City offense. The left-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Tigers to a 3-1 win. Zack Hess closed the game out for Detroit, earning his 14th save.
Had Andrew Vaughn not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Vaughn hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Tigers.
"We didn't string enough hits together to win the game," said tight-lipped Kansas City manager Jose Mendez. "Obviously."
The victory gives Detroit a record of 65-47.
