Smokies Dispatch Barons, 11-3
|
The Tennessee Smokies had no problem beating the Birmingham Barons, 11-3, at Smokies Stadium. Christian Donahue led the way. He went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2 for Tennessee. Williams Perez earned the win for Tennessee. He lasted 5.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits, while striking out 6. With the win, he raised his record to 11-2. With the win, the Smokies improved to 45-46.
The Smokies got an important contribution from designated hitter Brian O'Grady, who in the bottom of the eighth punched a 1-2 fastball into left-center for a bases-clearing double. It was his 13th double of the season and put the Smokies ahead, 11-3.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Donahue. "And not try to do too much."
